WeStory – Love at First WeChat

WeStory-Love

With over 600 million monthly active WeChatters around the world, we are always excited to hear how WeChat has created and strengthened connections among our users. Through our new series, WeStory, we plan to highlight a few of these standout stories.

This week, we feature Melisa and her boyfriend, Mickey – two lovebirds from Israel who are a living example of the modern fairytale, with WeChat as their fairy godmother.

It All Began With A Chat

Melisa first learned about WeChat and its robust features at a work meeting. For business reasons, she and her colleagues downloaded WeChat and began sending goofy selfies to each other.

Mickey, on the other hand, was more familiar with WeChat and used it as a way to communicate with the people he met while traveling and studying in China. When he returned to Israel, he often used the “People Nearby” feature to meet new friends and other Chinese speakers.

But one day as he activated this Discovery feature, there was a particular person who stood out among the others.

Some moments in life are better told through video. And now you can capture and share them all in six-second clips with WeChat’s Sight feature. Here’s a handy guide to help.

Sight Shooting is Simple

You can access Sight with a swift pull-down of the main chat screen. Once the eye icon appears, you’ll be able to start recording your Sights. Simply press and hold the green video button to record, and release to send. You can then choose to share your video with friends through Moments, private chats, group chats, or just save it as a draft for later.

Pro-tip: if you double tap when shooting a Sight, you can zoom in and out.

Check Into the Smart Room of the Future Controlled by WeChat

Whether it’s through sharing Moments, sending Sights, versing a friend in a favorite WeChat game or just chatting with loved ones, there’s no question – WeChat is helping users to connect their online and offline worlds in more ways than any other chat app in the market. And now, WeChat is bringing you the ultimate feature to help merge your worlds, the ability to control your smart room all from the palm of your hand.

During this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, we partnered with Ayla Networks and Caesar’s LINQ Hotel & Casino to showcase the first connected suite in Las Vegas. By scanning a room-specific QR code, WeChatters were able to connect to the suite and control various aspects of the room remotely through their phones via WeChat.

Imagine walking into your hotel room after a big day out and being able to switch on the lights, open the blinds and curtains and play with the room temperature, all from the comfort of your couch or bed. This and more is possible at the LINQ Hotel connected suite where WeChatters can also control how devices interact with each other. For example, users can pre-program the “sleep” scenario on WeChat so that once selected, the room automatically switches off the lights, closes the blinds and curtains and locks the door.

6 Ways to Simplify Your Life with WeChat

6-Tips-To-Simplify-Your-Life-With-WeChatSummer is almost over, which means it’s time to kick things into high gear. With work, school and a social life to juggle, sometimes we all need a little help. Lucky thing you have WeChat to make your life a whole lot easier. Here’s how:

1. Make group chat your best friend

Why have 25 separate chats when you can just form one group chat and communicate with everyone simultaneously? Think about it – one chat to coordinate everything from deciding what flick to see, to sending directions to the theater. You can even avoid those long work email chains!

2. Simplify your chat messages

Next time you’re spending hours drafting a long text message, think about sending a WeChat voice message instead.  You just press and hold the “Hold to Talk” button to record and release to send. Or you can send an animated sticker that perfectly sums up your emotion with one tap.

3. QR codes = boss business cards

You know the routine. Go to a meeting, exchange business cards, enter contact information into phone, then email to follow up.  With WeChat, you can consolidate this into two easy steps. Each WeChatter has a personalized QR code and scanner.  Just scan each other’s QR code after your meeting to add them as a contact then start chatting instantly!
