Celebrating WeChat India World Sticker Day at Comic-Con Hyderabad

Last month, WeChat landed at Comic-Con Hyderabad where we announced the winners of the WeChat Sticker Challenge and celebrated ‘World Sticker Day’ in India.

“World Sticker Day is dedicated to the world of emoticons and stickers, which have become an integral part of our modern digital lives,”said Nilay Arora, Country Head and Vice President of WeChat India. “Stickers can now replace a thousand emotions without typing a single word.”

At Comic-Con Hyderabad, over 10,000 people came to experience all the fun at the WeChat booth and posed for photos with popular life-sized local stickers: Nautanki Baba, Mona, Jabbar, Narad Muni & Bong babe.

After selling his music app startup to Steinway & Sons, he worked for other startups, and eventually joined the WeChat U.S. team in 2013 before moving to work with the core WeChat team in China in 2014. Dan also became known in the mobile industry when he published a widely noted article discussing Chinese mobile app trends.

Fixed Security Flaw in WeChat 6.2.5 for iOS

A security flaw, caused by an external malware, was recently discovered affecting iOS users only on WeChat version 6.2.5. This flaw has been repaired and will not affect users who install or upgrade WeChat version 6.2.6 or greater, currently available on the iOS App Store. Here are some important points about the situation.

The flaw, described in recent media reports, only affects WeChat v6.2.5 for iOS. Newer versions of WeChat (versions 6.2.6 or greater) are not affected.
A preliminary investigation into the flaw has revealed that there has been no theft and leakage of users’ information or money, but the WeChat team will continue to closely monitor the situation.
The WeChat tech team has extensive experience combating attempts to hack our systems. Once the security flaw was discovered, the team immediately took steps to secure against any theft of user information.
Users who encounter any issues can contact the team by leaving feedback in the “WeChat Team” WeChat account.

For example, users can pre-program the “sleep” scenario on WeChat so that once selected, the room automatically switches off the lights, closes the blinds and curtains and locks the door.

It All Began With A Chat

Melisa first learned about WeChat and its robust features at a work meeting. For business reasons, she and her colleagues downloaded WeChat and began sending goofy selfies to each other.

Mickey, on the other hand, was more familiar with WeChat and used it as a way to communicate with the people he met while traveling and studying in China. When he returned to Israel, he often used the “People Nearby” feature to meet new friends and other Chinese speakers.

But one day as he activated this Discovery feature, there was a particular person who stood out among the others.

Singapore celebrations have already begun in anticipation of the nation’s 50^th birthday on August 9, 2015. And do we have a treat for you! WeChat is bringing Ang Ku Kueh Girl (AKKG) stickers straight to WeChat.

Wang Shijia, the designer of the AKKG stickers, was inspired to create AKKG from the traditional Singaporean snack Ang Ku Kueh, or red tortoise cake, a soft sticky glutinous rice pastry wrapped around a sweet center.

The stickers are meant to spread the beauty of Singapore’s local heritage and culture through universal values such as love, kindness, tenacity and gumption.
